The built in guide shows reference points for 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, and 1 1/2 inch material thicknesses. Place the drill bit into the built in holder, push it all the way in, and move the collar to the matching depth mark.

Then tighten the collar with the hex key and start drilling. No ruler. No separate chart. No extra tool to search for.
